What separates a good sandal from a good slide is the strap system, and it’s worth choosing based on how the shoe will actually be worn. Ankle-strap sandals hold the foot most securely and are the best choice if you’ll be walking a lot — outdoor events, markets, a full day out — since the strap keeps the shoe from slipping the way a backless slide can on uneven ground. Slingback and T-strap styles sit closer to a dressier look and suit seated occasions or shorter events where security matters less than the silhouette. If you’re unsure which to choose, an ankle-strap sandal is the more practical first pick and works across the widest range of occasions.

Flat and low-heeled sandals solve different problems. A flat sandal gives you the styling benefit of straps and detail with the all-day comfort of a slide, and is what most of our customers choose for daytime wear, travel and long dawaats. A low block heel — usually 1 to 2 inches — adds a bit of height and posture without tipping into the balance and fatigue concerns of a full heel, and is a common choice for evening events where you want a slightly dressier profile than a flat but don’t want to commit to 3+ inches for the whole night.

Because sandals expose more of the foot than closed shoes and are worn through the hottest months here, breathability and strap comfort matter as much as looks. Look for softer strap linings if you know certain shoe materials irritate your skin, and break in a new pair around the house for an hour or two before wearing them for a full day out — this is especially true for ankle-strap styles, where the strap needs to settle against your specific foot shape. Our sizing runs 6 to 11; as with slides, sizing up slightly is the safer call if you’re between sizes, since straps can be adjusted or will loosen slightly with wear, while a tight sandal only gets more uncomfortable.
